The Quilters Elf
Where quilting runs in the family. We piece, quilt, design, and celebrate everything from modern show quilts to treasured heirlooms. We love sharing our passion, our projects, and the joy of creating quilts that will be loved for years to come.
The Quilter’s Elf has evolved much like a quilt itself: pieced together over time, shaped by creativity, tradition, and the joy of making something beautiful with your hands. Each stage of our journey has added a new layer.
We’ve come from hand‑quilting roots and now do long‑arm artistry with the playful, digitized designs we create today. Computerized long‑arm quilting opened a new world for us, allowing quilters everywhere to finish more quilts with beautiful, consistent, personalized designs.
At The Quilter’s Elf, we’ve always believed there are magical stitches in every quilt. When Julie first began long‑arm quilting, she quickly realized how much custom designs could transform a quilt. Clients would pick up their finished quilts with starry‑eyed excitement, seeing their projects elevated in ways they hadn’t imagined. That spark (that shared magic) became the heart of our work.
As the demand for custom designs grew, Tia joined the adventure. Her background in graphic design and her love for playful, clever motifs brought a fresh creative energy to the studio. What began as digitizing Julie’s custom quilting ideas soon grew into a full design partnership.
Together, we blend tradition with innovation, each enhancing the other’s strengths.
Julie —
Founder, Long‑Arm Quilter, and Keeper of Tradition
Julie began The Quilter’s Elf in 2013. She grew up playing under her grandmother’s quilt frames and threading needles for the quilters to use. She later made her own hand‑quilted pieces before discovering long‑arm quilting, which opened a whole new world of creativity. After just a year of long‑arming, she entered a quilt in the Home Machine Quilting Show (HMQS). Her sewing buddies (the small group that would eventually become The Sew Flakes) teamed together to design and assemble the quilt.
Tia was brought in to digitize several of the quilting elements, adding a custom touch to the final design. After many hours of collaborative work, Julie quilted the finished piece, and the team was thrilled when their quilt placed first in its category. That experience was both energizing and affirming, and Julie has continued ever since to quilt for clients, teach classes, and create digitized designs.
Julie is a long‑arm quilter in Houston Texas area. She brings texture, movement, and personality to every quilt that passes through her studio. Her love of both modern and traditional quilting keeps The Quilter’s Elf grounded in heritage while open to new ideas.
Tia —
Designer, Digitizing Artist, and Creative Partner
Tia joined her mother not long after The Quilter’s Elf began, quickly discovering her own love for quilt making. Today, she is an exclusive designer with Urban Elementz, creating quilting designs inspired by the custom long‑arm work Julie often requests.
Her patterns lean into playful geometry and clever themes, often using clip-art-style motifs placed in fun, flowing ways across the quilt. It’s a fresh take on quilting design that balances whimsy with precision. Alongside her design work, Tia pieces quilts with Julie, explores new techniques, and helps when needed for work at the The Quilter’s Elf.
