The Sew Flakes roots are as cozy as the quilts we make. It all began as a small, intimate family sewing group that met once a week at the home of our founder, Julie. Those weekly gatherings were about more than just thread and fabric. They were about connection, laughter, and helping each other through the tricky parts of a project.

We realized that the spirit of support is something special. In May of 2015, we officially launched the Sew Flakes Facebook group. Our goal was to take that warm, “kitchen table” vibe and share it with the world.

Today, we are a dedicated space for sewers to support one another in finishing both those UFO (“Unfinished Objects”) hiding in the closet and exciting new projects. We believe that creativity is a shared passion, and no one should have to rip out a seam alone.

What Do the Sew Flakes Do?
We are here to share information, celebrate finishes, and lift each other up when motivation is low. While we operate online, we haven’t lost our personal touch:

• Community Support: A safe place to share your work-in-progress without judgment.
• Creative Challenges: Fun prompts to get you out of a sewing slump.
• The Utah Retreats: Twice a year, we take our community offline for our bi-annual quilt retreats in Utah. A time to bond, sew, and relax.

Meet Our Founder
Julie is the heart and soul of the Sew Flakes. From hosting those very first weekly family meetings to managing our online growth, she keeps us all going. She organizes our retreats in Utah and dreams up fun new challenges. Julie ensures that the Sew Flakes remains a place of encouragement and joy for everyone.

How Do I Join?
We’ve intentionally kept the spirit of a small personal group. Because of the close‑knit nature of our group, we aren’t accepting new members at this time.

We’re truly grateful for your interest, and you’re always welcome to follow along with our projects, updates, and retreat stories here on The Quilter’s Elf. If we ever decide to expand the group in the future, we’ll be sure to share that news here.
