12″ Finished Block: Rail Fence

February Block One: Rail Fence

Based on your fabrics, choose one option and proceed with the instructions.

You will need:        

Dark Option:

  • Background fabric
  • Medium fabric
  • Dark fabric

Light Option:

  • Background fabric
  • Light fabric
  • Medium fabric

1 – Cut: One strip of each fabric. Each strip should measure 2.5” wide by 27” long.

2 – Sew: Background strip to the medium strip. Then sew the medium side to the dark fabric. When complete, you will have one strip of all 3 fabrics. Strip should measure 6.5” wide by 27” long.

3 – Sub Cut: 6.5” X 6.5” squares. This will make 4 squares with a tiny piece left over.

4 – Arrange: Place each square in a rotating fashion in a 4×4 grid.

5 – Sew: Sew each square as shown in the diagram.

6 – Press: Set your seams and press to the darker fabrics.

7 – Complete: Your completed block should measure 12.5”
