2026 Mystery Quilt Challenge: May

Instructions by Julie. Posted by Tia.

Happy Spring Greetings to all.

It is May which means it is time for two new blocks in our 2026 Mystery Quilt Challenge. KUDOS to all of you who have completed their block and are up to date on the challenge. Once you have finished May’s blocks you will be officially halfway through the challenge.

A special thanks to Tia for her extra help this month. Over the past 4 weeks, I have had two eye surgeries, and Tia has been my “main eyes” for typing and compiling the patterns. You may notice my own blocks are not quite as exact as they should be, as vision certainly makes a big difference in quilting, but I have decided not to redo them. That is a first for me. 😉

The blocks for this month are using flying geese and half square triangles. The challenge this month involves following a pattern with specific directions for cutting angles and assembling them.

I test every pattern to ensure accuracy before making my final blocks. These cutting directions are precise. As long as you cut as accurately as possible, the blocks should come together easily. Although the second block looks complicated, it is quite manageable once you break it down.

I have also included a page with “Julie’s Notes” for those in the email list. Hopefully they will be helpful to you as you navigate this month’s challenge.

Your May To-Do List:

  1. Complete Block One: Old Fan
  2. Complete Block Two: Wheel in the Road

I look forward to seeing your completed blocks posted! That is truly the best part of this challenge.😊
